Hunting with the Hawks

Tommy and I got the opportunity to go to the farm to see some Red Tail Hawks hunt. The people who brought them out are members of the Georgia Falconry Club and get hawks periodically to rehabilitate and train. They brought Amelia and Haggis out for an hour or two of hunting. It was fascinating to watch them and to learn step-by-step what they were doing. I was able to get some fairly good close up shots of the hawks, but trying to get some action shots of them was impossible. Not only are they very quick, they blend into the surroundings so much that the camera could not focus on them.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

This is one of my favorite holidays! It’s just a fun day that you don’t have to worry about buying gifts or doing anything specific other than wearing green and drinking green beer.

Yes, I am Irish. My grandmother was one of the first generation on her mother’s and father’s side born here in the US. Rumor has it that I was named after the county where my great (or great-great) grandmother was born. I haven’t been able to confirm that though–either that was why I was named Kerry or that an ancestor was born there.

Well that was a quick trip.

We planned on spending a few days in BG and drove up today. We really needed to check on the house after all the cold and snow. We saw snow on the road going into BG, but there wasn’t much…….until we got to our road. The bridge over the river hadn’t been cleared, but had been driven on. We didn’t get much farther than the far side of the bridge. There was probably 6+ inches of snow on top of the frozen ground. There was no way we were going to be able to drive up to the house. There was no sign that either Albert or Cleon had gone up the road. So Tommy, Bubba and I walked up to the house to make sure everything was OK there. It was. But, since we couldn’t get our supplies up to the house we turned around and came back home. :(

Headed up.

The snow on the deck.

Going back down the hill. It was pretty slippery especially for me in my tennis shoes!

Before we left this morning I went outside and tried out my new lens.
This cardinal was gracious enough to sit still for me.

Yummy!

Tommy took pity on me since I’m scorekeeping for a large soccer tournament this weekend. This means that I’m tied to my cell phone and my computer. So, being the great guy that he is (not to mention I shared some of my earnings with him) he went to Krispy Kreme and got some HOT doughnuts this morning.

Can’t you just smell them?
