All of these flowers were photographed in our very own yard. I even kept them all alive and blooming while Tommy was gone. :)
Amanda’s home, but where is Evan?
Amanda rode back from Wyoming in the truck with Tommy. He had been in Laramie working on their kitchen remodel. They got home Friday afternoon and she leaves late this afternoon. Hall came up as we planned to get with Anne, Cleg and Doris for dinner at everybody’s favorite restaurant, Rasa Sayang. Since I had the four of us together and my camera was handy I decided to get a family shot. Unfortunately, Evan was not with us–he was holding down the fort and taking care of the bassets.
First Place!
The photography club’s competition topic this month was Abandoned. When Tommy and I go on road trips, we get off the interstate as much as possible. In so doing, we come across a lot of abandoned things so I had a lot of photos from which to choose. We are allowed to submit two digital files, two color prints and two monochrome prints. I didn’t have time to get some prints made so I just submitted the following two images.
This was taken on our way home from Wyoming last October. This is the second time we have come across this house and both times we had to stop for photos.
This picture was taken last Christmas in Bosler, Wyoming. We had driven out past Bosler to find trains and stopped to take some pictures of several old cars in this field. We also stopped last Fall and took pictures of the same cars with no snow.
I received a First Place for the Pontiac. YAY!
Tryouts = Done!
Over the past two weeks our soccer club has evaluated nearly 1,100 players for the upcoming season. I’m exhausted! Now on to getting the selected players registered.
We planted numerous varieties of sunflowers this year. While I really do love the great big ones that look like they’re smiling at you…
….I think my favorites (at least this year) are the ones that are bronze. What a beautiful color they are!
Flowers from the yard!
Saturday Morning
I had been looking forward to Saturday morning all week because I knew I could be lazy all day. Tryouts begin next week which bring very long, hot days along with all the crazies!
After Tommy took Bubba for their morning walk, he and I went up to the farmers’ market at City Hall. We bought some zucchini and some strawberries and looked at everything else. I’m not sure that some of the products were actually fresh from this area though.
On our way home we went to Krispy Kreme and, yes, the Hot Doughnuts light was on!
Yummy! There’s nothing quite like a warm Krispy Kreme.
When we got home I went out to the yard to take pictures of the flowers. Here’s some of what I found:
Doesn’t this look like a crown? And then this turns into this:
Sunflowers all over the place:
I’m always amazed at the things that I find when I’ve got my macro lens out and I’m really looking closely at things. After taking the shots of the cone flowers, I turned around and looked down and saw this wicked thing. I immediately thought of Hall who hates spiders.
Dahlias!
Cinco de Mayo Weekend
and nothing to do. I wanted to go out and practice more with my camera but the wind was blowing just enough that shooting macros just wouldn’t work. Tommy suggested that we take a drive–which we haven’t done in such a long time. I told him we should head to Talking Rock. I’m not sure why I decided on that destination, but we never made it there. Instead we turned and went to Amicalola Falls.
On Sunday morning I took a walk with Tommy and Bubba. We have several neighbors that have beautiful Southern Magnolia trees and I wanted some more pictures of the blooms.
When we got home I walked around the yard looking at all the plants that will be blooming in a week or so. The cone flowers are going to explode soon–can’t wait! These are the first to open. They are called Berry Berry and the color is just gorgeous.

Southern Nights

Is there anything that says “Southern” more than a Southern Magnolia? How about Glen Campbell’s song, “Southern Nights“? What a great, great song!
