A Fun Weekend!

Some high school friends and I had planned on getting together at our house in NC. I kept expecting something to happen and someone, if not everyone, wouldn’t be able to make it. Lo and behold, we all met at the assigned time (give 15-20 minutes) in town to have lunch together at the Hobnob restaurant. Lunch was delicious and so much fun. After we had eaten we got our waiter to take a picture of the five of us.

We then headed up the hill to the house, drank wine, ate a delicious dinner thanks to Denise and Diane, and talked and talked! Saturday morning we had a leisurely breakfast and I then took the girls up to the Blue Ridge Parkway. We stopped at the Devil’s Courthouse for a group shot.

I had planned on driving over to the Pisgah Inn but we were waved over by a guy on the side of the road. He said that there had been a bad motorcycle accident just past where we were and a helicopter was on its way to get the injured person. So we turned around and headed back to the house.

Patti’s huband, Kenny, showed up to keep Tommy company. He brought their new rescue dog, Gus. What a love he is–Gus, not Kenny. :)

Another group shot:

How special it was to have these girls visit for the weekend! I thoroughly enjoyed the time with them and hope we can do it again.

What a week!

Between registration, printing rosters and passes and getting ready for our soccer tournament and then working out at the fields, I worked 75 hours from Monday through Sunday last week. It is now Thursday and I’m still exhausted!

I haven’t picked up the camera much and am having withdrawal pains. Hopefully I’ll be able to shoot some this weekend. Until then, I’m posting this one which was taken in BG.

Here’s hoping that things are finally settling down at the soccer club.

Two Years Ago…

our family and friends lost a very special man. After a freak swimming accident, my brother Terry lost his life. I still have a hard time talking/thinking about it. The pain has subsided somewhat; I don’t think about it daily, but the pain is still there. As Terry’s mother-in-law just said, “What a damned waste.” He was a very special guy!

Terry

At least the zinnias and sunflowers are hanging on.

As in many places in the US, it has really been hot and dry here. Even though the flowers out front have been watered, the zinnias are the only ones right now that still look good.

The sunflowers out back in the garden are doing fairly well, but none of them are as big around as I was hoping for. Still, they make me smile.

I shouldn’t be wishing my life away, but I really can’t wait until the Fall. The older I get the less I like the heat.

Anne, Cleg, George and Gracie came to visit.

We made them go waterfall looking with us on Friday morning. Thursday night brought a lot of rain and we were concerned that the trail in would be really wet. Surprisingly, it was OK. I was really hoping that there’d be some good light filtering through, but there wasn’t. But I like these pictures anyway.

Courthouse Falls

Obviously this is not a waterfall, but the rhododendrons
were perfectly beautiful on the walk in.

Bird Rock Falls

This shot was taken with my cousin Sue in mind as she loves to fly fish.

On the way to town…

we kept seeing big piles of poo in the road. We also saw marks on the road that we weren’t quite sure what they’d come from. About the time we both said horses/wagons, we caught up with them. Of course we had to stop and take pictures. While I was doing that Tommy was talking to one of the guys who said they knew where they’d started from but didn’t know where they were going.

We finally got to town for the annual Arts & Crafts festival and the Antique Car Show. I was disappointed in the Arts & Crafts festival as it seemed that probably 80% of the booths had jewelry. I did find a booth that had some gorgeous photographs. Whenever I see someone’s photos like this guy’s I want to ask if I can tag along and learn from them. I also bought a pottery deviled egg plate.

This last photo brought back memories of my brother and high school. I really don’t remember the particulars about this, but Terry had a bug like this one (I think it was lighter a bit in color) that he loaned to me to drive to school. Ours was minus the suitcases, sled and funny stuff on the hood though.

January and the Park Seed Catalog

It’s dangerous to get the Park Seed catalog in the middle of winter. When it’s cold and dreary outside is really not the time to go shopping in their catalog. Tommy had to hold me back when I started ordering flowers. The one variety that I was most anxious to see has finally bloomed–another cone flower! When it starts to open up the petals look more like a zinnia. The fully-opened flower is so vibrant.
