But did you know that they eat poop?

We took a ride to the Fish Hatchery with Anne and Cleg yesterday. On our drive over we pulled into a trail parking lot because we saw lots of butterflies flying around. We jumped out and found several groups on the ground. As we got close to them we saw that they were eating poop. Guess there weren’t enough flowers around to get pollen. Hmmm…….
 

We planted (OK, it was really Tommy who planted, but it was my idea) zinnias this year. Most of them have been pastel colors and are very pretty. But, we have two orange/red blooms that are gorgeous.

This was the first year in a long time that we were able to go see some fireworks. First we went over to Nancy’s and Steve’s for dinner. After yummy food we headed over towards Roswell High School to see the display. I have never photographed fireworks before and kind of second guessed myself on what settings I should use. I’m not thrilled with what I did get but it was fun and I hope I remember what I learned this year when the 4th rolls around again next year.

Forty years ago today my dad passed away. Since he and I had not been around each other for some years, I was really looking forward to renewing my relationship with him. After I graduated from high school he invited me to come up (to New Jersey) and live with him. I was so looking forward to some time with him. Unfortunately, I was with him only a week before he passed. There was so much I wanted to know about him and his family that I’ll never now know. I guess the good thing was that I was able to be with him just a little.

Tommy and I started out the day yesterday by going to the local farmers’ market. I didn’t see anything there that looked any better than things we have in our garden, except for these very colorful zinnias. We did buy some Silver Queen corn which turned out to be tough.

The farmers’ market this year is at City Hall.

I then visited Hall and Sara in their new apartment. I hadn’t been to their new place since they had moved (as I was working during their move). I’m so happy that they have come back to town and we can see them more often. Their apartment is nice, but the best thing about it is the location. They are within walking distance to the Marietta Square. After I’d had a look around their place we decided to walk over to the square for the 4th of July activities. We missed the parade but there were still tons of people, food vendors and arts and crafts vendors. While we were there they rang the Liberty Bell–this supposedly was done at the same time as cities’ and towns’ celebrations all over the country.

I love this big, wonderful country and feel so fortunate to be an American.

We took a quick trip to NC this past weekend to get away from the oppressive heat. Since I’ve been working (to purchase more photography equipment), we haven’t been able to get to the house for a while. It was too short of a visit but I was able to play with my new lens. It’s back to work this week, but hopefully we’ll be returning to BG very soon.

Was Terry any happier than when he was either on or in the water?

On another note, and one to which I’m sure Terry would agree, go USA! Here’s hoping they beat Ghana and go to the next round in the World Cup.

As I sat reading the news on my laptop this morning, something caught my eye through the window to the backyard. My immediate thought was that one of the hawks around here flew down for breakfast. I got up and walked over to the window and saw a crane standing a few feet from our pond. He/she was at least 3′ tall. Unfortunately, my camera was on the other side of the room so I wasn’t able to get a picture.

On another note, since I post so many pictures of purple cone flowers here I thought I’d share one of our several sections of cone flowers. This one runs along the side of our driveway. I love these flowers!

Not only do we have Purple Cone Flowers, we have White Cone Flowers too!
